1600 grade fibre blanket
based on Alumina or Mullite fibre

Description

1600 grade alumina blankets are available in high purity alumina or mullite fibre types. The alumina type is the original polycrystalline (non-vitreous) fibre, the mullite type is a later development which shows less contraction at high temperature. They are available in plain or quilted form. The quilted type has ceramic yarn stitching which holds the blanket together when it has been cut into pieces. A sharp knife or scissors are suitable cutting implements.

These lightweight blankets have good handling strength and low thermal conductivity. They are ideal for furnace insulation up to 1600°C and for providing temporary thermal insulation in a variety of situations. They contain no binders and generally do not produce smoke or fume. Occasionally some lubricant is added to aid blanket formation. This may give rise to an odour briefly on first heating.
