SG70-130

in Induction Furnace applications

Introduction

SG70-130 is a dense, hard ceramic composite with several properties which make it very suitable for use with coreless induction furnaces. It has high mechanical strength at temperature, is not wetted by many metals and has good electrical resistance. It can be cut or machined with normal tools although carbide or diamond tips are recommended for large throughputs.

Applications

SG70-130 can be used as hold down covers; splash guards; side, top and bottom plates. SG70-130 does not contain Refractory Ceramic Fibres (RCF) as defined in CHIP98. It is a safe replacement for asbestos cement board, micaceous or resin bonded boards. Because of its homogeneous structure it can be drilled and threaded either perpendicular or parallel to the board surface.

The high strength, (85 MPa compressive, 58 MPa in bend) which is retained to well above the structural temperatures seen in induction furnaces, enables the material to be used for coil posts and retaining systems.

SG70-130 does not outgas under vacuum and is resistant to super alloy or glass spillage.

SG70-130 can be varnished to give an adequate seal if it needs to be used in an application where there is normal air pressure on one side or edge and vacuum on another.

Availability

SG70-130 is made in sheets 1220 x 1220mm and from 0.8 to 102mm thick.

SG70-130 can be made in cylinders with wall thickness from 3 to 13mm, diameters up to 915mm and lengths up to 2330mm.

A small number of popular thicknesses is held in stock. Other sizes of sheet can be supplied within two to three weeks of receipt of order. Cylinders are made to order and take about 4 to 6 weeks because of the manufacturing process.
